Processing times in China
The UK Border Agency's target is to process 90% of non-settlement visa applications in 15 working days. Following an unprecedented increase in demand in China for UK visas, it is currently taking at least 20 days to process visa applications. We apologise for any inconvenience caused and advise all customers to submit their applications as early as possible to avoid disappointment. We have recruited additional temporary staff to help deal with this surge in demand and expect to return to our 15-day target in the next 4 weeks.
Guide to visa application processing times
The UK Border Agency Guide to Processing Times gives visa applicants information on recent visa processing performance. This guide cannot be used as a guarantee of processing times for your individual visa application. The visa application centres in each country are listed alphabetically. Processing times are given in working days, excluding weekends and public holidays and are from the date you submitted your documents, biometric data and paid your visa application fee. Performance figures are updated monthly.
Queries about processing times
You can track the status of your visa application by using the 'Track your Application' facility on this website. Please do not contact VFS or the UK Border Agency unless your visa application has exceeded the processing times given in the Customer Service Standards.
Customer Service Standards
Information on the UK Border Agency's visa Customer Service Standards can be found on the UK Border Agency website. The Standards set out our targets for visa processing which are:-
- To process 90% of non-settlement visa applications within 15 working days and 95% of settlement visa applications within 12 weeks.
